A BRIEF EXPLANATION ABOUT PLAYING IN MAPS FLIGHTS…

 

MAPS (Mid-Atlantic Premier Soccer) Flights were created in 1996 to secure top-level regional competition, on a consistent basis, for premier-level teams.

 

A decade later, MAPS remains true to this mission. Soccer comes first in MAPS. Player development and showcasing drives MAPS programs.

 

Recent affiliation with MSSL provides even more opportunities for today’s MAPS teams, including progression into U20 and U23 adult programs, and alternative youth sanctioning options.

 

The MAPS and MSSL marks assure teams of competitive match-ups, customized scheduling, attention to individual team needs and user-friendly league administration.  

 

MAPS does not follow conventional models if better formats for player development needs exist. MAPS pioneered the use of site games. MAPS incorporated multiple-game playdates for premier teams with deep rosters needing “the work”. MAPS abandoned balanced scheduling where it impeded scheduling strong match-ups week in and week out. MAPS minimized the importance of seasonal standings, and made pre-eminent “this game on this field on this day” in the developmental experience. MAPS innovations allowed teams to test themselves across a wide swath of regional competition, and experience fresh match-ups on a regular basis.

 

To further meet their member clubs needs, MAPS and MSSL administer a series of tournaments and college showcase that bring quality events into the local region. These events provide strong tests of a team’s progress and development. Just in the last year, MAPS teams enjoyed match-ups with teams from 18 states and two provinces without ever traveling far from home. And over 600 college coaches registered to attend the three MAPS / MSSL Showcases organized annually!
