Concussion Awareness Training

NJYS is now requiring that all youth soccer coaches registered in NJYS become familiar with spotting and dealing with conscussions. Out of state team coaches are welcome to take the training class for their benefit.

All coaches must obtain a certificate to this effect by October 15. After that date, coaches will be required to produce the certificate when requested. The most immediate likelihood for the request will be at State Cup game check-ins after that date, as well as anytime a team seeks to initially roster or make changes to its roster.

The Certification procedure is fairly short, convenient and no-cost. It is done online, in the comfort of your home. Participants view a 20 minute online video, answer several review questions about what they have watched at the end of the video, then print up a certificate that is provided after the questions are properly answered. The only equipment you will need is online access on a computer attached to a printer. The script and quiz are available in Spanish and English.

CJYSA supports this initiative. It is certainly timely throughout all sports (as any NFL fan can attest). Coaches must obtain their certificate by October 15, 2011.

We are asking our teams to team up with the Claudio Reyna Foundation to promote soccer in our NY & NJ urban communities. We suggest a $1 donation for each child on your roster.

Claudio Reyna Foundation and Soccer For All are combining their resources to raise funds for their respective organizations. All profits will be split 50/50

The mission of the Foundation:

To INSTILL AND INSPIRE underserved youth in low-income urban communities with positive experiences through soccer, education and community involvement in hopes of growing healthy bodies, minds and spirits.

Soccer For All Mission Statement:

‘‘Soccer for All’ is a youth development model that helps underprivileged, at-risk, and special-needs children discover the joys of playing soccer. These children will be given a chance to learn the basics of soccer through a 5v5 format instructed by professional coaches in a safe and secure environment. The program is open to all types of groups, including schools, after school clubs, community groups, Churches, and townships. All programming is provided to the children for free.

What CRF Does

Soccer Academies

They are provided as an after school program at no cost to students ranging in ages from six to twelve years old. Programs are run during the school calendar year from September to June. Before training sessions, students are assisted with their homework by tutors and volunteers. Good grades, good attendance and good conduct are required to continue in the program.

The training sessions include a minimum of 60 minutes of moderate to rigorous activity with a focus on balance, coordination, technique, conditioning and teamwork. Also, every session dedicates time to nutritional education and discussions. All Coaches are certified and several have USSF ’A’ licenses, the highest coaching certificate available in the United States.

As of 2010, CRF currently provides eleven soccer academies in New York City and Newark, NJ, serving 456 kids. Our plans include expansion to Trenton, NJ and Camden, NJ as well as several other locations in and around New York City. We expect to increase the number of children we serve to 600 by Fall 2011.

Professional Coaches

The Foundation provides professional and elite groups of coaches dedicated to introduce the sport to young enthusiastic children from six to twelve years old. Under Claudio’s technical direction, our coaches provide the highest quality soccer training at no cost to the students. Coaching support is also provided by Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls at the North Star Academy DTMS location in Newark, New Jersey.

Every child receives:

Customized Jersey, Shorts & Socks
Shin guards & Bag
Coaching for 36 weeks

Each site has a minimum of:

15 balls & 6 futsal balls
2 ball bags
18 pinnies

Soccer For All Mission Statement

Soccer For All is a year round program. Coaching can take place before, after, or during school hours. Late night or midnight coaching sessions can be arranged specifically for at-risk and inner-city youth.

The Eastern Development Program MSSL flights expand to U15 - U17 Boys & Girls Age Groups. Apply today!

The MSSL EDP Flights offer teams the following:

Highly competitive matches while limiting travel
“Best Practices” for required games in each flight. Teams have the opportunity to customize their schedule beyond the core games with additional friendly games and occasional tournaments and showcases type events.
Responsive management team directed board of coaches committed to a grass roots approach that puts “Football First”.
Selected Festivals, showcases and tournaments to showcase the players to present the leagues talent to college coaches and top talent evaluators in the US.
College Placement of players seen as the top priority.
International coaches to offer extraordinary summer camp. Additionally 18 players will be selected at MAPS Cup and Summer Camp to be invited for training and games at respected UK professional youth clubs Spring 2012

The EDP MSSL flights are being judiciously expanded to better allow for geographic continuity, and to create the possibilities for promotion and relegation that prevents “staleness” from setting in over time.

EDP teams will be allocated to geographic groupings to limit travel, utilizing tournaments and showcases to provide opportunities for inter-group play. There will also be room in the schedule for teams to arrange friendlies against more distant teams if they so prefer.

Fall 2011 EDP flights will offer two levels of play, with a top level dedicated to the most competitive teams chosen strictly on the basis of merit, and a second level for relatively competitive teams aspiring to the highest level.

To showcase teams’ talent at a single venue, teams in EDP flights will participate in the MAPS cup held in late June as each year’s seasons finale.

League Looking for Age Group Coordinators

The MSSL league offers an “open architecture” structure that is supported by an administrator who handles registration, scheduling and monitoring. We are re-instituting the Age Group Coordinator positions to monitor each age group and make adjustments as necessary. The age group coordinator responsibilities include:

· Maintain regular contact with teams in the assigned age group to monitor/anticipate developments and opportunities.

· Coordinate with teams outside the league to create playing opportunities, with the expectation that favorable exposure will attract desirable teams to the league.

· Work in coordination with the League Administrator to establish flights. This role will become increasing important as we migrate to a system of promotion and relegation.

· Develop and maintain a set of guidelines for promotion and relegation. This includes monitoring team play over the course of the year to support decision-making.

· Provide information as needed to the Disciplinary Committee contact (Head Referee Assignor). The coordinator is encouraged to monitor minor issues throughout the year and take corrective action where advisable. When matters rise above the level of moderate concern, refer the matter to the league Head Referee Assignor.

· Attend a semi-annual league Coordinators Meeting with the League President, Administrator and Referee Assignor.

Overall the age group coordinator is expected to demonstrate leadership and integrity to assure the teams in the league that we are providing a “level playing field” , investigating opportunities and addressing issues promptly and professionally.
